The latest BlackBerry Messenger, version 5.0.2.11 is available in the Beta Zone. We’re getting closer to version 6.0 and while there aren’t any big improvements in this release, it’s good to try and get your hands on it for the basic fixes. Here are some fixes you’ll find in this release:

• If you are running BlackBerry® 6.0, a cursor might not have appeared when you scrolled through previous messages in a chat.
• If you turned on content protection, when you received a new message, you might have seen a “Content protection is enabled” message.
• If a person invites you to become a contact during a multi-person chat with you, and if you accepted the request, the contact might not have appeared on your contact list.

The BlackBerry News Feeds app is a pretty cool RSS reader for your BlackBerry. The app is a little redundant for BlackBerry 6 users, but RIM probably wanted users to have something for the OS 4.6 to OS 5 users. Even if that was the reason, it seems like a waste of time considering there are third party RSS readers. In any case, the latest update to the News Feeds app includes:

• Ability to delete all prior articles when viewing a feed or viewing “All Unread Items”.
• Ability to mark the list of items as read when viewing a feed or viewing “All Unread Items”.
• If you swipe left or right in a feed, the screen now moves to the previous or next item in the feed.
• Ability to zoom in on images and text in feed items.
• New message, wireless network, and battery (while charging) indicators appear in the app’s header.

Something that is missing is more import functionality. You should be able to integrate the app with Google Reader as well as your browser. Manually adding feeds is a bit of a pain.

BerryGrab.com is a cool site we haven’t covered yet. The site is designed to display the data stored on your BlackBerry in a readable and user-friendly way. This is done through an IPD file, which is created when you backup your BlackBerry using the Desktop Software. Once you have the IPD file, you can export the data to a .CSV format, allowing you to make use of the PIM data such as contacts, calendar, BBM, call logs, SMS and more. Another benefit to this service is that your backups are stored online, meaning you can retrieve them if you lose your harddrive for whatever reason.

Today we learned that Twitter has suspended UberTwitter, as well as a host of other Twitter apps purchased by UberMedia. If you were using UberTwitter, you’re probably on the hunt for a new Twitter app and Blaq might be just what you’re looking for. Blaq is a feature rich Twitter client for BlackBerry that gives you multi-account support, deep integration with the device, “quick tweet” and more.

If you are a frequent traveler or just a weekend excursioner and happen to be a fan of beer, we have just the app for you. Brew World for BlackBerry is an awesome app that lets you locate local brew pubs and craft breweries right from your device. Brew World uses your current GPS location to search near you or you can input a US city or zip code or search by brewery name. There is an extensive and growing list of over 1,600 breweries and 3,000 beers. Each brewery page contains contact and location information as well as a full list of beers they offer. You can even register to review beers within the app. So if you plan on getting out and like to check out the beer world, grab Brew World free from BlackBerry App World.

We keep seeing more and more good things come from RIM and others on the PlayBook front, and with TAT on board it’s full steam ahead. We already saw a sweet scrapbook application running on the PlayBook, and now the guys from IntoMobile have snagged the above video of some more amazing demos. The first app shown is a media viewer hooked up via HDMI to an external display. It shows extremely well and even has some crazy 3D too. Then we get another look at Scrapbook, and finally check out a multimedia app called Frontrunner. All of them look amazing and really show off the capabilities of the PlayBook. The apps look so smooth and run without a hitch – that “double multitouch” really wows me too. Take a look at the video above for all the goods then sound off in the comments.

If you feel like you’re missing out in the Instagram craze, look no further than PixTrix. PixTrix is a BlackBerry application that lets you apply a bunch of custom filters to photos right on your device. Open an image and choose from filters such as double exposure, vintage, saturation and more. From there you can choose to save the image back to your device or upload to Facebook.

While PixTrix isn’t perfect, it does get the job done. The interface is a bit clunky and had an awkward layout. Some processes take a bit to get done and I feel some things could be fixed to make the app much better (like choosing an image) but free is free right? A few weeks ago we let you know about a new app for BlackBerry from mblware called JeeoSuite that is currently in private beta testing. JeeoSuite is a wifi web-portal for your BlackBerry, and it’s well on its way to becoming one of those “must have” apps that all BlackBerry users are going to want to get their hands on.

The early phases of testing revealed a ton of handy features, and we just learned that the next phase is rolling out soon and it’s going to have even more cool functions for you to drool over. As I mentioned in our 2011 BlackBerry Smartphone Roadmap post, we’re still not sure if the next-generation of full touchscreen BlackBerry is going to carry the Storm name or something different, but that hasn’t stopped a Verizon branded version of it from popping up on youtube. Codenamed monaco, the device in the video should be rocking BlackBerry 6.1 along with the following specs:

If you are a Twitter for BlackBerry user, or if you were affected by yesterday’s UberTwitter fiasco, you may want to check this out. Twitter for BlackBerry v1.1.0.13 was leaked online today! Beyond the normal bug fixes you would expect, this update also comes with some UI changes to your timeline. The icon is now a cute little Twitter bird instead of the old “t”, and you can view DMs by bubbles or stripes. It looks like this version is only compatible with BB6. In Kevin’s BlackBerry Roadmap, he talked about the devices we can expect to see in 2011. One of these devices is the next generation BlackBerry Torch, and it looks like we just got some more confirmation on that. According to UAProf documents found online, the BlackBerry 9810 has the same 480×640 screen resolution that the Torch 2 is rumored to have. Add it up, and it looks like the Torch 9800 has a new family member.

Current specs for the Torch 2 are said to be:

• Processor: 1.2 GHz processor
• Radio: Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE ; Tri-band HSPA 14.4Mbps
• Display: 3.2″ VGA – 480 x 640 capacitive touchscreen display

Bold 9700 (left) vs. the new BlackBerry Bold Touch (right)

Gotta love it when a plan comes together! Following up on the 2011 BlackBerry Smartphone Roadmap leaks of January, we’re starting to see these devices take shape for REALZ in February. We saw the monaco/Storm 3 show up on video yesterday, and now today we’re looking at live photos of the BlackBerry Bold Touch, which currently goes by the codename dakota. As you can tell, the newest Bold (pictured above on the right) looks more like the original Bold 9000 from the front than the smaller Bold 9700/9780 we’re currently used to. I can’t wait to pound out emails and BBMs on the Bold Touch’s keyboard… that is the Cadillac of smartphone keyboards right there. As for what the Bold Touch is packing inside, here’s the specs as they have been rumored to date:
